Direct Hydrocarbon Indicator for Thin Layer Reservoir After Resolution Enhancement



Hydrocarbon filled thin layer reservoir is commonly found after well-logging. The thickness of thin layer reservoir is beyond seismic resolution, hence a resolution enhancement method usually applied to reveal this potential layer. Some of the methods use bandwidth extension to increase the vertical resolution of seismic image. Since this method reconstruct the ‘lost spectrum’ from seismic image, it is important to investigate the effect of ‘artificial resolution enhancement’ to some popular DHI methods such as AVO and complex attribute.
In this study, previously unseen potential thin layer can show DHI anomaly after resolution enhancement applied. The effect of tuning thickness and other thin layer characteristic must be considered.
