3D Reservoir Property Model Based on Volumetric Calculation – An Alternative Method for Developing Infill Well

ABSTRACT

A generalized procedure for volumetric calculation based on 3D model of reservoir property using Property3D software involves analysis of seismic interpretation, rock type or rock facies, rock properties and fluid properties, in which all the necessary data reside within GeoFrame integrated environment, application, and database system. The generalized steps in the process include (1) recognition, correlation of seismic event or sequence, (2) recognition of sequence statigraphy, (3) recognition, mapping, and interpretation of rock type or rock facies, (4) recognition, mapping, and interpretation of rock properties, (5) estimate of Sw and oil water contact (OWC). The result will give the estimate of initial oil and remaining oil, and finally a possible distribution map of remaining oil in place (net oil thickness map).
This paper describes how this model can give a better view of our reservoir. Delineate subsurface based on rock type or rock facies to distinguish reservoir from non-reservoir unit is very important in highly complex reservoirs. Then volumetric calculation based on 3D model of reservoir property is applied to define the distribution of original oil in place (OOIP) and current oil in place (COIP). Finally, a number of infill wells will be determined to maximize oil production.
