The Petani Field, located in Central Sumatra was discovered in 1964. The field has produced over 293 million barrels of oil. The “Menggala-3900’Sand” is the main producing reservoir. Two horizontal wells through this reservoir unit with 2000′ each of horizontal section were drilled with the objective of minimizing water coning and improving the ultimate recovery. The geological work to support this project included a detailed reservoir evaluation, reservoir mapping and seismic data integration. Geologist played critical roles in the drilling program preparation and the well evaluation while drilling.
